First Days in Belize

Days 1-3

First day was great! Placencia is a small town with a tiny airstrip with two small "terminals," one for Maya Island Air and one for Tropic Air. The 12-seater cessnas pull right up in front and you walk through the one room building to the side where they wheel over the luggage. I was happy to see that my 32" tv in its box, wrapped inside my paddleboard, which had my yogamat around it for protection inside two thick black plastic bags was carted over separately indicating their notice of the FRAGILE sign I had placed on it (tv works so all good for my zoom classes)!

The little plane I took to get here:

There is one road (mostly paved) from the main town, Placencia, to my little place in Maya Beach. The place is adorable, just like the pictures online (you never know!). The manager was great, arranging a taxi and finding me a used bike to purchase (rentals are $12/day so buying one for $100 was a good deal...it even came with basket). Attached are pics from the first day including plane both in Belize City and in Placencia, the bike, and my first sunset which was taken from the overwater deck. Pictures of the place I'm staying at can be seen online at tripadvisor: https://www.tripadvisor.com/VacationRentalReview-g291977-d6432785-Waterfront_property_with_amazing_sunsets-Placencia_Stann_Creek.html

Day 2 was all about teaching, which went well once I sorted out my setup. I did manage to snap a shot of the sunset though which I will also try to attach. I also managed a very short 1 mile run and found the beach on the Caribbean side where i can try paddle boarding on a calm day.

Another great sunset:

Day 3 I got my first paddle board in on the lagoon. It looked smooth but had tiny little waves. I believe I saw a ray swim under me (light colored rounded diamond shaped object of about the right size) and he left a swirl of mud off to the left so either he was feeding or I scared him from his resting spot. I also think I scared a manatee because I heard something large submerge and saw a trail of leaves and sticks. It was hot by 10 so I only got a very short 1/2 mile jog in because I ran into the bakery truck...a tiny tuk tuk-like vehicle that drives around selling baked good from a local bakery (picture attached). By the time it started to cool down I had office hours and meetings (we are 2 hours ahead here until daylight savings time then only an hour ahead). Not much else to report though I did get some great picture of trumpetfish and a barracuda right off my beach. Later I will send an email about my "crocodile adventure"
